Why I Write: To Disrupt, To Heal, To Be Free
Today is the National Day on Writing — a day to reflect on why we write, not just what we write.
For me, writing has never been optional.
It’s how I speak into the silences that were imposed on me.
It’s how I transform trauma into truth.
It’s how I disrupt systems that silence voices like mine.
As a writer, adoptee, and artist-scholar, I write to dismantle the narratives that told me who I was supposed to be.
I write to find the voice that was taken.
I write to be free.
